The Kootenay Blues Society has had a big first year, a lot of fun and great success with the shows presented: The KBS Fundraiser (featuring local blues bands: Flaming Aardvark Trio, White Lightning Blues Band, Jon Burden and Friends, Baker Street Blues with Judy Brown); Sonny Rhodes Band (three shows); Sue Foley (with guests Baker Street Blues); Alabama Mike and Country Pete with Riverside Blues Band (5 shows); JW-Jones (with guests Holly Hyatt Band).  And our membership keeps growing!

We'd like to thank all those who came out and supported blues music in the Kootenay's and made these events the huge successes that they were. You all have enabled us to keep bringing you high quality blues from all over North America and we have some exceptional shows planned for 2019, including: Mark Hummel and The Golden State/Lone Star Revue on May 29th; Andy T. Band on June 21st and 22nd, Cecile Doo Kingue on July 19th and 20th; Sue Foley on Aug 19th and 20th and Terry Hancks on Sept 7th and 8th.

Small Group Lessons with Ralf Buschmeyer

Tired of playing the same licks?  Still hitting the bad notes?  This course can put you on a path to re-inspire and re-build how you play the Blues.  Learn new techniques to build your awareness in improvisation to get the "right note" every time.  Also includes chordal development, rythm styles, analysis of Blues greats like Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton and Albert King.

Guitar Player Magazine calls guitarist Ralph Buschmeyer "as smooth and sophisticated as James Bond taking a holiday in Monte Carlo" and Blues Review hails him as an "inventive musician."

Lazy Poker Blues Band

Vallican Whole, Vallican, BC

HOT NIGHT OF BLUES AT THE VALLICAN WHOLE On Saturday, February 23rd, The Vallican Whole Community Centre will be hosting the lower Slocan Valley’s mid-winter boogie, when the Lazy Poker Blues Band comes to play. Doors open at 7:30 with the tunes starting to ignite the place at 8:00 p.m. Fronted by the powerful voice of Aryn Sheriff, featuring the hot licks of local blues legend Bill Lynch and with the mind crunching sax of Clint Swanson thrown into the mix, the stage will be set for a great evening of music. As the band says, "the Blues is more than music, it's more than attitude's like an itch you can't quite reach”. The Vallican Whole is hoping everyone comes out to attempt to get that itch scratched. Bill Lynch’s recent solo album “Would You Speak on My Behalf” re-ignited the interest in the Lazy Poker Blues Band, who have been playing to full houses around the region. They’ll be bringing that strong musical mix to the Vallican Whole for folks to get their feet moving too. Tickets for the event are $15 advance, $20 at the door. Advanced tickets can be purchased at Gaia Tree Whole Foods, Evergreen Natural Foods in Crescent Valley, Otter Books in Nelson and at the door.
